Holy. I read this in only one sitting. It was amazing. A mixture of poetry and novel writing simply pushed the story ahead and the images seen and the emotions expressed were so vivid and gut-wrenching. A good book/poem really makes me think and feel, and that’s exactly what “Autobiography of Red” has done. The character himself, Geryon, really goes through some turmoil before releasing himself from every bad and toxic relationship. His fears of time, sex, being seen as stupid are super relatable. I haven’t felt so much for a character but Geryon is someone you root for to get their happy ending and feel better in their skin. The last thing I’ll say is that for a short book; it really does deal with heavy and important topics. Overall, an amazing, enticing, breathtaking modern take on an ancient Greek myth.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
