This was a rollercoaster – emotion and pace wise. The main character Stephen Gordon goes through so much: crushes, heart aches, first loves, betrayals, resentment, etc etc. There was everything in this novel; traveling, war, family, death, the writing journey, self-identity and sexuality. Oh man I could write a book on this book. There’s an oddly comforting feeling to this book although it is depressing and sad most of the time. This will definitely be a book I’ll think about for a long while.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
