Donna Tartt is a true master at plot and character. She crafts descriptions masterfully. Her atmosphere weighs heavily. 600 intense pages. Super morally grey. I was so utterly invested in these characters, especially the main character. I feel simultaneously this was written yesterday and also in the early 20th century, instead of the late 20th century. I simply cannot compose a coherent thought about this book; I am still processing it.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
