Definitely not what I expected from this book and that’s why I ended up loving it. I was super super skeptical due to all of the endless hype to this series projected the last few years. I really don’t know if I ship her with Dorian or Chaol? To be honest I ship those two together more. Also I always call him Charcoal in my head, oops. This is so odd but this book feels like a combination of the “Shatter Me,” “The Selection,” and the “Divergent” series but honestly not in a bad cliché way. “Throne of Glass” reminds me of my favorite aspects in those books; imprisonment, freedom, competition, scheming royals, love triangles, etc. Also, I binge read all of those series and loved them all despite their flaws. Sarah J Maas’s writing style is engrossing and her characters are simply flawed and captivating. I’M SORRY BUT CELAENA SARDOTHIEN IS REALLY FREAKING DRIVEN TO THE CORE AND HER OWN DAMN PERSON. I loved her unforgiving regard for books, fighting, and dresses. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series. I can’t believe I have waited this long.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
