“The Strength In Our Scars” is a modern poetry collection focused on the healing journey, sprinkling encouragement for those who are brave enough to embrace their authentic self.
The core ideas of “The Strength In Our Scars” are repetitive but this collection remains the stronger of the three I’ve read by Bianca Sparacino (A Gentle Reminder and Seeds Planted in Concrete.)
Some passages are quite good and at the very least hopeful in tone. This is erroneously labelled as poetry but I’ll allow it because it can give off a “poetic” feel that most modern poetry lacks.
However, I will say that I did not feel the “deep comfort” this book promises to give, but I can recognize that it could be other people’s daily comfort read/coffee table book.
It is the type of book you should pick up once in a while – but I had an audiobook loan so I read it all the way through, which is why it exposed more of its flaws than if I were to have read a passage at a time.
I can see the appeal as it’s quotable, bite-sized, and perfect for sharing passages on online feeds and posts.
“Lose yourself in books, in art, in the haze of new horizons. Lose yourself in curiosity, in knowledge, in passion. Lose yourself in feeling it all; lose yourself in the world, in the stories and the lessons it has to teach you, but never lose yourself in love; never lose yourself in another person. You are your own home—please don’t ever forget that.” p. 40
