I honestly really really liked this book. I never knew until now how much I love books about knights and kingdoms with a mix of magic. The characters all had depth and a distinctive voice. My favorites are by far John Snow and Tyrion Lannister. I hated Catelyn and Sansa Stark but even these two ladies redeemed themselves just a little as I understood their character arcs more (I still despise them though). The book got slow and repetitive near the middle but 3/4 towards the end shit hit the fan and blood was shed and it was a whole other level of awesomeness. It was amazing and worth the build-up. The thing I liked the most about Game of Thrones is how easy it is to immerse myself back into the world, I didn’t expect that given it’s a hefty book with a million and one characters. Although I got confused each time I came back to it – side characters-wise – it was easy to follow back with the main storyline and the main characters. Overall, a great fantasy read that’s worth the confusion of names and mourning of unjust deaths.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
