This book helps
Krakauer journalistic abilities shine through this book. I truly believe he does the best to accurately follow Chris McCandless and portray (Alex’s) journey, trail, encounters, and feelings towards society/the wild by analyzing the items he collected and discarded, the letters he’s sent/received and the exchanges he’s had, as well as the underline passages of the literature he read. Krakauer, although speculating, shows a different point of view of the young man’s journey even going so as to relating to his own and other young men that have thrown themselves in the endeavors of the Alaskan journey before meeting an end – it is not always about arrogance but about discovery, challenge. There is so much to gain from reading this account on McCandless journey.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
