I was hesitant going into this one but was incredibly relieved at how much I enjoyed it, as I did with the other two books in this series, since I found myself laughing and tearing and avidly turning each page. I love the new characters introduced in this one, Louisa’s new life in New York was refreshing and hopeful regardless of all the hurdles and homesickness she dealt with. This not only handled with earlier topics such as heartbreak and dealing with a loved one that passed away but it also added the hardships of community, race, immigration, and wealth. Overall, this entire series has truly touched my heart.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
