I really enjoyed this very short picture book. It’s so gritty and different from the others – it has a touch of realism to it. It’s all about the images and their scaled tone reflects the concept of “wild things.” I prefer more text but I also acknowledge that it wasn’t the purpose to this style Sendak had in mind.
“Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.”
“In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
