Even if you’re not a Shakespeare fan, I can assure you that this play is accessible and comical to read! It was one of my favourites during my undergrad! (Although I haven’t rated as high as other Shakespearean plays!)
In my opinion, “The Comedy of Errors” by William Shakespeare doesn’t get enough recognition!

“The Comedy of Errors” follows two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant – Dromio of Syracuse – arrive in Ephesus. However, the town of Ephesus happens to be the home of both of their twin brothers, thus, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus.
See the confusion?
The play takes on crazy twists and turns – most times comical, at times serious – as the identities of the two pairs are mistaken!
“The Comedy of Errors”, well, was a comedy of errors… It’s not that simple though…
I really enjoyed the aspects of duality in this play! They were humorous and exaggerative (maybe too much to my likings at times).
Interestingly enough, the play did shine a lot of light on the complexities and the similarities of marital bonds with sibling bonds (especially twins.)
Overall, this play is a quick and enjoyable read as is to be expected with most Shakespearean works!
“A wretched soul, bruised with adversity,
We bid be quiet when we hear it cry;
But were we burdened with light weight of pain,
As much or more we should ourselves complain.”
“We came into the world like brother and brother,
And now let’s go hand in hand, not one before another.”
